Current senator: The current senator for the 5th District is Sen. Betty Jean Alexander (D-Detroit). The district includes Dearborn Heights City, Detroit City, Garden City, Inkster City and Redford Township. Alexander first won the seat in the Senate in 2018, beating an incumbent in the Democratic primary. According to her official website, she previously worked in an administrative role for Wayne County.
